The identification of energy savings
In addition to sustainable energy production, the other key route to carbon reduction is that of greater energy efficiency leading to energy savings. The method that will be develooped will focus on reducting energy consumption through

  1. heating
  2. lighting
  3. transoprtation
  4. maritime operations

The potential will be assessed on the basis of energy performance coefficients such as J/(m2.a) of energy/(tonne.m) (transport).

How will we do this?​​

A method will be developed to determine the potential of energy savings options in SMS ports and port operating companies.

Based on the Energy Audit method and the tool developped by the
Dutch research institute TNO, with input from the partner ports and
knowledge partners, a general method will be develped to assess theoptions for energy savings.

The method will be applicable to other ports and port operating companies outside the PECS project.

The method to determine the potential of energy savings will be
formulated in a spreadsheet, with which any port can determine the
potential. The tool will be developed and requires data relating to
the current situation (coefficients) and achievable status
(coefficients)
report and assesment

The method to determine the potential of energy savings will be
described in a report. Together with the calculation tool, it will be
distributed also to other ports.
The ports of Oostende, Hellevoetsluis and Portsmouth will employ this method so as to determine the potential for energy savings in their ports. Afterwards the results of all ports will be compared and concluded.  Omgevingsdienst IJmond will also determine the potentials of energy savings on company level. Per company a list of viable technological options will be drafted. These results will be shared with the other port partners in a workshop.

All port-partners contribute to this activity, with the lead being CEREMA.
